During the 2018 session, the Maryland General Assembly changed Food Stamp Program requirements for program benefit eligibility. The new law disqualifies applicants and recipients who are convicted of only two types of drug-related felonies for Food Stamp Program participation:

- revising provisions for disqualification, including comparable disqualification with other means-tested programs and
- requiring states to implement EBT before October 1, 2002.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is a federal nutrition program. SNAP benefits are the new official term for food stamps, and those eligible can use SNAP benefits to purchase food.
