My Child Received A Smaller P
For school year 20212022, P-EBT benefits are based on eligibility for the National School Lunch Program and the number of days a child did not receive free or reduced-price meals at school because of a COVID-related absence, virtual attendance, or school closures. This is different from P-EBT for previous school years when children all received the same benefit amount if they were NSLP-eligible. I Believe My Child Was Eligible For More P
If you think your child was eligible for more benefits than they received , you can request a review of your benefits between August 15 and October 14. To request a review, call the P-EBT Call Center at 833-442-1255, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central time.
After your request is submitted, HHS will review the benefit decision and contact your child’s school for more information. The review process can take two to five weeks to complete.
If the review determines that your child was eligible for more school year P-EBT benefits than they received, those benefits will be issued to your Lone Star Card or P-EBT Card.
Requests for review of a benefit decision can only be submitted once per household, and all review decisions are final.

How Much Money Will I Get From P
The P-EBT benefits are designed to help families afford meals on days when the children are home instead of eating at school. As a result, the USDA has stated that students are not eligible for P-EBT funds on the days they attend school in person and eat meals at the school. They may be eligible on days they do not attend school or attend but do not receive a meal.
The P-EBT benefit amount is equal to $7.10 per eligible child for every day that school meals were not available to your child. They chose the $7.10 figure based on an assumption that lunch is worth $3.75, breakfast is worth $2.35 and a snack is worth $1.
In Alaska, the rates are $11.44 per day. In Hawaii, Guam, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, the rate is $8.28 per day.
This daily rate is multiplied by the number of days that your child was unable to receive meals at the school. The number of days will not include weekends, school breaks or holidays when school is usually not in session. The only days that count are days when the school was closed or the child attended virtually.
Because the payment depends on the specific number of days missed, it will vary each month and depend on the pandemic conditions in your area. It will also vary based on regularly scheduled school breaks and schedules. Therefore, it is impossible for Low Income Relief to calculate or estimate your specific payment amounts.

Children under 6 receiving state subsidized child care and SNAP who had a child care facility closure could be eligible for a P-EBT benefit. Eligible children will receive a payment in late July or August. Will I receive a new card?
Everyone who qualifies for P-EBT will receive a new card issued to the family by mail in the students name. The cards will be mailed in a plain white envelope addressed to the student.
