    Reporting Changes in Household Circumstances

    Eligible SNAP households must report the following changes within 10 days of the date the household becomes aware of the change:

    • changes of more than $125 in the amount of gross earned income
    • changes of more than $125 in the amount of gross unearned income
    • a change in the source of income
    • changes in household composition, such as any person moving in or out of the household
    • a change in residence and any resulting shelter cost changes
    • changes in court ordered child support
    • a change in liquid resources, such as cash, stocks, bonds, and bank accounts.

    SNAP households receiving substantial gambling or lottery winnings of $3,500 or more must report this change within 10 days of receipt of the winnings. Households receiving substantial gambling or lottery winnings are ineligible to receive SNAP.

    If the household fails to report a required change and receives extra SNAP benefits, the value of these benefits will have to be repaid. The person could also be prosecuted for fraud.

    EBT stands for Electronic Benefits Transfer. It is a way of delivering Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits without paper coupons.     What Happens After I’m Approved

    Once you are approved for SNAP, you will get your Electronic Benefit Transfer card in the mail. Your monthly benefit will be loaded on this card. You can check the Monthly EBT benefit schedule to see what day your benefit will be loaded to your card every month. You will also be able to get help with employment and job training through the SKillUp Program at no cost to you.

    How Long Will I Get Help

    You can get SNAP benefits for as long as you are eligible for help. You will be required to complete a mid-certification and a recertification each year you get SNAP to make sure your household is still eligible. If you do not return your information by the deadline on the form, you may lose your benefits.

    • Your mid-certification will happen halfway through your benefit period. You will get a form in the mail that you will need to complete and return to the Family Support Division.
