Timeline To Receive Food Stamps
Before receiving food stamps, an individual must make an appointment with a DHHS caseworker after submitting an application for the SNAP program. During the interview, the caseworker will review the households income, eligibility for the program and employment status. Generally, during the interview, the DHHS caseworker can tell the applicant how much his family can receive per month in food stamps. Depending on the state the applicant lives in, he will receive his food stamps right away or within 30 days. A state that has a 30-day approval period before issuing food stamp benefits may provide expedited benefits in as little as seven days to those who need emergency food or have a qualifying income.

When an application status is pending, it means your application is still being processed. If additional information is needed, you may receive a letter in the mail requesting more documents.
SNAP applications can take 30 days to process. Expedited or emergency SNAP benefits may be available if your household is in immediate need. Requirements for expedited benefits vary, but usually the household must have less than $100 in the bank and a monthly income of $150 or less. Expedited applications are processed within 7 days.

SANTA FE New Mexico households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits will continue to receive the maximum amount for their household size for the month of August, announced the New Mexico Human Services Department.
HSD is committed to helping New Mexicans who are struggling during this time of economic instability, said Angela Medrano, HSD Deputy Secretary. These additional SNAP benefits will continue to provide food to many New Mexico families in need.
The emergency assistance will increase a households monthly benefit up to the maximum food benefit amount for their household size . SNAP recipients do not have to take any action to receive these additional food benefits as they will be placed directly on their EBT cards.
SNAP recipients with a regular issuance date of Aug. 1-7, will receive a supplement on Aug. 7. SNAP recipients with a regular issuance date of Aug. 8-20, will receive their benefits and the supplement on their regular issuance date.
Since March of 2020, SNAP households that were not already receiving the maximum SNAP food benefit for their household size have received an increase bringing their food benefits to the maximum amount each month. These increases were made to help reduce food insecurity for New Mexicans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you have filed a new SNAP application, your SNAP benefits will be available the day following your case approval. If you have an ongoing SNAP case, your SNAP benefits are deposited on the same day of the month, every month, between the 1st and 19th.
Your SNAP benefit availability is based on the last digit of your case number: 1=11th, 2=2nd, 3=13th, 4=4th, 5=15th, 6=6th, 7=17th, 8=8th, 9=19th, 0=10th. There is a maximum monthly allotment based on the size of the household. When determining your benefit allotment, they will take your net monthly income and multiply it by 30%. That number will then be subtracted from the maximum monthly allotment. The remaining amount is the total monthly allotment you will receive based on your application. They will review the facts and fix any mistakes that have been made. In order to ask for a hearing, you will need to visit your local office, call the office or send a written request to the office. You must ask for a hearing within 90 days of the decision.
