Minnesota child care providers can now apply for direct monthly payments focused on increasing compensation and benefits for employees who regularly care for children.

The $299 million Child Care Stabilization Grants program helps stabilize Minnesotas child care marketplace hard hit by low enrollment and higher costs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Base Grants program is part of a larger $563 million program supported with federal stimulus funds to help boost pay and benefits for child care workers and stabilize Minnesotas child care marketplace.

The effort is part of the American Rescue Plan Act, which was signed into law in March 2021 and provides Minnesota with additional funds designed to help stabilize the child care marketplace. At the end of June 2021, the Minnesota Legislature created Minnesotas Child Care Stabilization Grant program beginning in June of 2021 and lasting until June of 2023.

The Child Care Stabilization Base Grants are designed for child care programs that commit to spending 70% of their monthly grant allocation on increased compensation, health benefits or pay premiums for staff who regularly care for children.
