Texas Extends Emergency Food Benefits For August

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is providing approximately $267 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of August as the state continues its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
HHSC received federal approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to extend the maximum, allowable amount of SNAP benefits to recipients based on family size, and all SNAP households are receiving a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments.
The emergency August allotments are in addition to the more than $3.9 billion in benefits previously provided to Texans since April 2020.
Recipients will also continue to receive a 15% increase in their total benefits, which will continue monthly until September 2021. This 15% increase and the additional emergency allotment amount should appear in recipients accounts by Aug. 31.
These emergency SNAP benefits continue to help Texans during the ongoing pandemic by providing food for individuals and their families, said Wayne Salter, Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner. We are happy to continue to support that need.
Administered by HHSC, SNAP is a federal program that provides food assistance to approximately 1.4 million eligible low-income families and individuals in Texas. If you are under the age of 18, pregnant, disabled, or elderly, you may be exempt from the work requirements. All others without dependents can get the food stamps and the EBT card but for a limited time in a total of 3 months for 36 months. Texas Hhs Extends Emergency Snap Benefits Through October
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Health and Human Services Commission will extend emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits through October due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Governor Greg Abbott announced $294 million in additional SNAP allotments for the month of October, according to a news release. Since April 2020, the SNAP program, which provides food assistance to low-income families and individuals, has paid out more than $4.5 billion in benefits to Texans.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the emergency extension for the maximum allowable amount. All SNAP recipient households will receive a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments by Oct. 31. The emergency extension is expected to help more than 1.4 million Texas households.
We are grateful that well be able to continue to help Texans provide food for themselves and their families as we work together during this pandemic, said Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter in a news release.

HOUSTON The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is extending emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of June in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday.
Texans in need can apply for benefits, including SNAP and Medicaid, at YourTexasBenefits.com or use the Your Texas Benefits mobile app to manage their benefits.
HHSC received federal approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to extend the maximum, allowable amount of SNAP benefits to recipients based on family size, and all SNAP households will receive a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments.
Recipients will also continue to receive a 15 percent increase in their total benefits, which will continue monthly until September 2021. This 15 percent increase and the additional emergency allotment amount should appear in recipients accounts by June 30.
Thank you to HHSC and USDA for continuing to support Texas families by ensuring they can put healthy food on the table, Abbott said in a news release. These benefits continue to provide nutritious food for Texans across the state.

Abbott Announces Extension Of Snap Benefits Through November
AUSTIN, Texas The office of Gov. Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will provide more than $310 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of November. It is part of the state’s response to COVID-19.
The allotments are expected to help more than 1.5 million Texas households, a release from Abbott’s office said.
“Our continued investment in emergency SNAP benefits has ensured Texas families can put food on the table throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Abbott said in a prepared statement. “Thank you to HHSC and USDA for ensuring these resources reach Texans across the state.”
Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter said the extension of the benefits was especially timely with holidays approaching.
“We are proud to be able to help Texans get nutritious food for their families and have peace of mind as they celebrate the holiday season together,” Salter said.
