How Much You Could Receive
If, after all the above calculations, you are deemed eligible to receive SNAP benefits, there is a limit on how much assistance you can receive. For a household of one, up to $192 in SNAP benefits is available. A household of two could receive an allotment up to $352, a household of three gets up to $504, up to a family of eight that could get up to $1,153. If a household has more than eight members, each additional member could receive up to $144 each.

Temporary Benefits Increase From April 2009 To November 2013
SNAP benefits temporarily increased with the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 , a federal stimulus package to help Americans affected by the Great Recession of 2007. Beginning in April 2009 and continuing through the expansion’s expiration on November 1, 2013, the ARRA appropriated $45.2 billion to increase monthly benefit levels to an average of $133. This amounted to a 13.6 percent funding increase for SNAP recipients.
This temporary expansion expired on November 1, 2013, resulting in a relative benefit decrease for SNAP households on average, benefits decreased by 5 percent. According to a Center on Budget and Policy Priorities report, the maximum monthly benefit for a family of four dropped from $668 to $632, while the maximum monthly benefit for an individual dropped from $200 to $189.
Food Stamp Income Requirements
The SNAP program has eligibility standards for both gross and net monthly income. Most people will need to fit within both the gross and net income guidelines in order to be eligible. Exceptions to this include the elderly. For households including at least one person over the age of 60, only the net income standard is applied. Another exception is those receiving TANF and SSI.
The table below shows the maximum gross and net monthly income based on family size for SNAP eligibility. The gross income is the income you make prior to any deductions. Renewal Requirements Are Being Reinstated
The USDA Food and Nutrition Service waiver to extend certification periods is ending. Nutrition Assistance and Cash Assistance recipients whose benefits are set to expire on or after May 31, 2021, will need to renew their benefits in order to continue receiving assistance, if they have already received a six-month extension since November 2020. Affected households will receive a notice with instructions on how to complete the renewal process.

When Will I Know If I Can Get Snap Assistance

Cutbacks Of The Early 1980s
The large and expensive FSP proved to be a favorite subject of close scrutiny from both the Executive Branch and Congress in the early 1980s. Major legislation in 1981 and 1982 enacted cutbacks including:
- addition of a gross income eligibility test in addition to the net income test for most households
- temporary freeze on adjustments of the shelter deduction cap and the standard deduction and constraints on future adjustments
- annual adjustments in food stamp allotments rather than semi-annual
- consideration of non-elderly parents who live with their children and non-elderly siblings who live together as one household
- required periodic reporting and retrospective budgeting
- prohibition against using Federal funds for outreach
- replacing the FSP in Puerto Rico with a block grant for nutrition assistance
- counting retirement accounts as resources
- state option to require job search of applicants as well as participants and
- increased disqualification periods for voluntary quitters.

Ssi Participation And State Food Stamp Program Management
There is indirect evidence that supports the hypothesis that the prevalence of FSP participation could be increased, at least in some states. Note that if households with SSI recipients constituted a large fraction of all FSP eligible households, any connection between aggregate FSP take-up and prevalence among households with SSI recipients would be virtually tautological. However, the FNS estimate of the number of persons eligible for the FSP in an average month in 2004 is five times greater than the total number of SSI recipients , so it would be possible for variation in aggregate FSP take-up to occur independently of program participation among households that include SSI recipients.

Reporting Changes in Household Circumstances
Eligible SNAP households must report the following changes within 10 days of the date the household becomes aware of the change:
- changes of more than $125 in the amount of gross earned income
- changes of more than $125 in the amount of gross unearned income
- a change in the source of income
- changes in household composition, such as any person moving in or out of the household
- a change in residence and any resulting shelter cost changes
- changes in court ordered child support
- a change in liquid resources, such as cash, stocks, bonds, and bank accounts.
SNAP households receiving substantial gambling or lottery winnings of $3,500 or more must report this change within 10 days of receipt of the winnings. Households receiving substantial gambling or lottery winnings are ineligible to receive SNAP.
If the household fails to report a required change and receives extra SNAP benefits, the value of these benefits will have to be repaid. The person could also be prosecuted for fraud.
EBT Information
EBT stands for Electronic Benefits Transfer. It is a way of delivering Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits without paper coupons. Using a plastic card that works like a debit card, recipients may access their benefits at retail Point-of-Sale devices. Each Mississippi SNAP Benefit household will be issued an EBT card.
