    Letting Benefits Close Naturally

Another option is to simply let your benefits end naturally, with no action on your part. There are two situations when this can occur. First, you may be close to a re-certification and you want to forgo the re-certification interview and the associated paperwork. Failure to supply the required information results in the agency closing out your food stamp account. Second, you can report changes that would put you over the maximum income and resource limit, so that when the social worker reviews the new information, she will adjust the amounts in the system. The system then determines that you are no longer eligible for benefits, and you will receive a notice of account closure in the mail.

Learn About State Food Programs For Seniors

Most states offer these programs for seniors with a low income:

    What Happens After Repayment

Once the repayment is made, you may still be eligible to receive benefits depending on the circumstances of the error. If the overpayment was due to an intentional error, the DHHS may reject your application and discontinue your benefits. Alternately, if the error is confirmed to come from SNAP or the DHHS, you will return to your regularly scheduled benefit amount.

The Department of Transitional Assistance may refer overpaid recipients to the Bureau of Special Investigations . The BSI conducts interviews to determine if fraud was committed. Not attending the interview will not end your benefits, though it may lead to further investigation.

If the BSI declares there was fraud or the intent of fraud, you can be prosecuted. If you plead not guilty, you must calculate the correct amount that should have been paid to you. Legal services, like advocation or advisory sources, may assist in your research.

If you plead or are found guilty, jail is an unlikely consequence. However, the criminal strike may impede your ability to work, gain credit, travel and receive other government benefits. You may also have to repay the allotted amount determined by the court.

Can I Get Food Stamps If I Am On The Gi Bill

Military veterans and others who are taking advantage of the GI Bill program are sometimes curious if GI Bill money or BAH income is counted towards the income requirements for SNAP. The answer is yes, BAH income is typically counted towards your gross income when determining if you are eligible for food stamps. As such, your GI Bill benefits do contribute to your income, even though that income is temporary and not taxed. Receiving BAH does not stop you from being eligible for food stamps outright, it is just included in the income calculation.

    SNAP Overview

The federal food stamp program is now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program . SNAP is the largest domestic program available to nutritional assistance, and it is available for low-income individuals and families that meet the eligibility requirements. The federal food and nutrition service works with a wide range of other organizations including state agencies, nutrition educators, and neighborhood organizations to provide SNAP recipients with nutrition assistance and information.

The local agencies provide aid for people while they are going through the application process, and once people are approved, these agencies help them to access their benefits. The goal of this program is to provide monetary assistance with food while the members of the household are actively looking for work or working in positions that do not pay enough to cover food and living costs.

Petitioners who receive a food stamps denial in Kentucky will likely be dissatisfied with these determinations. In order to overturn the denials that the DCBS case workers issued for their cases, claimants are required to file appeals. After candidates have their food stamps application denied, they have 90 days to submit their requests that indicate that they want their cases to be reevaluated. Claimants are given the right to engage in a food stamps appeal process with the DCBS. However, failing to request appeals within this timeframe may result in applicants losing their rights to appeal.
