Additional Disaster Snap Benefits Approved For Ky Counties Following Historic Tornadoes
FRANKFORT, Ky. Gov. Beshear announced Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits have been approved for Kentuckians who live or work in the 14 counties impacted by the Dec. 10-11 tornadoes.
Two counties are currently on standby as they wait on being added in the future.
We really appreciate the extra assistance from the federal government to ensure our Kentucky families who have lost so much are able to have access to healthy food at this time, Beshear said. When youre worried about how to rebuild your home and your life, you shouldnt have the extra burden of worrying about your next meal.
Monday, Beshear made an announcement that SNAP beneficiaries affected by the tornadoes can request benefit replacements through a waiver the U.S. Department of Agriculture approved. A second waiver provides replacements to counties hit hardest like Warren and Hickman counties.
Additionally, Beshear announced hot food can be purchased from authorized SNAP retailers.
D-SNAP gives assistance to low-income households with food loss, loss of income, or natural disaster damage like tornadoes. Approved D-SNAP beneficiaries will receive an Electronic Benefit card that can be used just like a debit card to buy food at most grocery stores.
Due to unique, dire circumstances, those that may not qualify for SNAP benefits may still qualify for D-SNAP benefits.

How Do I Keep My New York Snap Benefits
Once you have been approved for SNAP, heres what you have to do to maintain your eligibility for benefits.

Because funeral assistance is a component of the Temporary Assistance program, an in-person interview will be required. Please come prepared to discuss the decedents financial situation, including income and assets. Common income and assets include, but are not limited to, any earned or unearned income due to the decedents estate, life insurance proceeds, social security or veterans death benefits, and bank accounts.
For applicants determined to be eligible for Temporary Assistance, Monroe County will provide a funeral assistance buial grant up to a maximum of $2,500 for decedents aged six years or older, or up to $1250 for deceased children aged five years or younger.
Please note that to be considered a funeral eligible for assistance, the total funeral cost cannot amount to more than $7,000. If the funeral you are arranging will cost more than $7,000, Monroe County will be unable to consider this an indigent burial and we will be unable to provide any assistance.

Do I Qualify For New York City Food Stamps
To qualify for the New York City Food Assistance Program, you must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Non-Citizen
- Live in New York City
- Meet the SNAP Income Limit
In addition to the eligibility requirements listed above, your household must also meet the three income and resources tests.
Income is the most important requirement when it comes to qualifying for New York City food stamps.
The three tests include your households gross monthly income, net income, and assets.

If you are approved for food stamp benefits in Kentucky, you will receive an electronic benefit transfer card that looks and works like a debit card. You must activate your EBT card, choose a PIN number and sign the back of the card before it can be used.
