What Are The Food Stamp Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for food stamps, you must meet certain income and financial criteria. The U.S. Department of Agriculture sets the national eligibility standards for the food stamp program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program .
In order to qualify for food stamps, your households gross monthly income must be at or below 130% of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, that means your gross monthly income must be $2,665 or less .
Your households net monthly income must also fall below the poverty level. To calculate your net monthly income, take your gross monthly income and subtract any allowable deductions, such as taxes, child care expenses, and medical expenses. If your net monthly income is below the poverty level, you may be eligible for food stamps.
