For the 40 million Americans currently receiving food stamps, the EBT card is how they access their benefits.
The EBT card acts as a debit card and allows the cardholder to purchase food that is on the approved list, from grocery stores and other merchants that are approved by the United States Department of Agriculture to accept food stamps.
However, even though online grocery shopping is available nationwide, EBT cardholders have been restricted in using their cards to buy food online until the USDA started the Online EBT pilot program in 2017.
How To Buy Amazon Groceries Online With California Ebt Card
Amazon has been approved for the California Online Purchasing Pilot and has launched delivery for EBT Cardholders. Cardholders in California can use their EBT to shop and purchase groceries online for delivery.
You cannot use your EBT funds to pay for Amazon grocery delivery. However, if you buy $25 or more in groceries, there is no delivery charge.
How it Works
To shop online for groceries with your California EBT card, follow the instructions below.
Step 1 Login your Amazon account
The first step to purchasing groceries online at Amazon is to go to the website and log in to your Amazon account. To log in, .
If you do not have an Amazon account, click on the Create your Amazon account as shown in the screenshot below.
Once you have created your account, proceed by entering your email and password to sign-in.
Step 2 Add your California EBT Card
Once logged in, here. Type in your complete SNAP EBT card number and click on submit.
Next, enter your delivery zip code. This will tell you whether or not your zip code is eligible for delivery on purchases using your CalFresh EBT card.
After entering your card number and zip code, click the Add your SNAP EBT Card button, as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 3 Shop for Amazon Groceries Online
When your EBT Card is added you can begin shopping for your groceries online. You can use , , or to purchase groceries online.
As an EBT cardholder, you have when you add your SNAP EBT card.

How To Order From Shoprite Online
Online ordering from ShopRite From Home is as easy as creating an account, selecting your store, adding your items to your cart, scheduling a pickup or delivery time, and paying for your order.
Whether you plan on using the curbside pickup or contactless delivery service, you will follow these steps to place an order online:
1. Sign-in or Create an Account
The first step is to sign in or create an account at the ShopRite website or through the ShopRite App. If you are a Price Plus Card Member, you will want to have your card # and email address handy. If you are not a member, then you can sign up by clicking Become A Price Plus Card Member.
2. Select a Store
Next, you will want to click on select your store location. You will then enter your city or zip code. A list of stores near you will appear. Look for stores that have the shop online button to start your order.
3. Reserve Your Time Slot Before You Start Your Order
You can reserve your time slot for pickup or delivery at the beginning of your order or when you checkout. Once you reserve the time, you hold that slot for 1 hour or until you close out your order. ShopRite recommends reserving your slot before you start your order.
4. Add Items to Your Cart
Start shopping online by adding items to your cart. You can shop by aisle, the weekly ad, weekly promos, a shopping list you created, a list of your past purchases, scanning items in your pantry or fridge, or by searching for the items via the search bar.
Colorado Snap Recipients Can Use Ebt Cards Online At Safeway And Albertsons
DENVER As Coloradans continue to navigate life during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Colorado Department of Human Services wants to remind residents of grocery options available to families participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that allows the use of Electronic Benefits Transfer cards to make safe, contactless purchases online.
Starting in May, the USDA Food and Nutrition Services enabled CDHS to launch a program that allows SNAP recipients to purchase grocery and food delivery online through approved retailers, Amazon and Walmart. In addition, contactless curbside grocery pick-up purchases made with EBT cards were made available at King Soopers across the state.
We are very happy to announce that now, Safeway and Albertsons have launched SNAP EBT for online grocery curb-side pick up through their Drive Up and Go service at select stores.
As Colorado continues to battle the COVID-19 crisis, safe access to food is more important than ever, Food and Energy Assistance Director Karla Maraccini said. These resources help individuals and families access the nutritious food they need to survive while lessening the risk of exposure to COVID.
The authorized SNAP retailers are EBT-enabled for Online Transactions and participants will see an EBT icon on the retailers website. They will then be able to add their EBT card in the Payment Method after selecting an EBT-enabled store.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides assistance to low-income people in the form of food stamps used to purchase certain types of food. SNAP is a federal program administered by the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food and Nutrition Service, which has a network of local offices.
State agencies determine eligibility for SNAP benefits, and you can use the USDAs state directory to find your particular state. There Are 3 Things You Need To Know Before You Order
Even when youve found a place with grocery delivery that accepts EBT, there are three things that you need to know before you order.
First, your food stamps funds cannot be used to pay for the delivery fee, tip or other charges. It can only be used to pay for the eligible groceries themselves. Youll need a secondary payment method to cover the delivery fee and tip.
Second, youll save money if you place one large order instead of several smaller ones. Because you have to pay a delivery fee and tip for each order, its best to plan ahead and make sure that you dont miss anything. Grocery lists and meal plans can make a big difference!
Third, you may get better deals in the store. When you order online, you may miss out on great ways to save money .
That being said, its overall a great thing that there are stores with grocery delivery that accepts EBT. Obviously, its a tremendous blessing for people who are homebound but its also a great option when you are sick and dont want to spread your germs.
Californias Ebt Online Program
In April 2020, the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom announced that starting April 28th, CalFresh EBT cards can be used online at Amazon and Walmart.
If you receive CalWORKs, you may also be able to use your cash benefits to make purchases online at Wal-Mart.
California expedited the implementation of EBT online purchasing in response to COVID-19.

Amazon Accepts Food Stamps
You can shop on with food stamps if you receive your benefits in any state EXCEPT Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana and Montana. You dont even need to have a Prime membership to qualify for exclusive deals when you shop on Amazon with food stamps!
You can also use P-EBT to shop on Amazon in all states except Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Montana.
How To Order Groceries From Amazon Fresh
