Do Food Delivery Apps Take Ebt
Short Answer: UberEats and Instacart have recently started taking EBT. DoorDash, PostMates, and GrubHub dont take EBT.
While many stores will take EBT cards for in-store purchases, ordering and buying food and groceries via online food delivery apps is still a new SNAP benefit. Its only recently that SNAP launched a federal pilot program allowing states to add online purchasing as an option for EBT cardholders.
Under this federal pilot program, Instacart and UberEats have started to take EBT. Instacart doesnt take EBT and SNAP benefits for grocery shopping at select retailers like Aldi, Walmart, and Whole Foods, while UberEats has begun accepting EBT payments for delivery fares.
But restaurant food delivery apps such as PostMates, GrubHub, and DoorDash dont take EBT yet. Part of the reason is that you cant use EBT to purchase hot or prepared restaurant food unless your state participates in the RMP. Since most states dont extend SNAP to include the Restaurant Meals Program, online and mobile food delivery platforms steer clear of EBT payments.
What Is The Purpose Of The Restaurant Meals Program
The United States Department of Agriculture has reached out to me personally about this article. They confirmed that there are fast food restaurants that accept EBT but they want to stress the purpose of this program.
Restaurant Meal Program has been an option for states state run, state contracted, state administered since the 1977 Food Stamp Act. The decision to establish a restaurant meal program is made entirely at the state level.Most importantly, the ONLY people who qualify are the elderly, disabled, and homeless, as this provision is intended to assist people who are unable to prepare meals at home or in a traditional kitchen setting.Since 1977 the decision to establish a restaurant meal program has been made by only a handful of states and because of this participation is very low.

Previously, food stamps could only be used to pay for purchases in-store. So, if you wanted to shop for groceries, like seafood, online, you werent able to use your EBT card to pay for your items. Fortunately, thats not the case anymore.
The United States Department of Agriculture now has a pilot program, called the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot, which allows people who get SNAP benefits to use their EBT card to purchase groceries online from participating retailers in select states.
So, if you dont want to have to head out to the store, and want the convenience of ordering seafood online, then this is such a great program.
With the program, you can pay for your online grocery orders with a valid EBT card in full or in part, from some stores in participating states.

Instacart is a top online grocery delivery service. You can shop groceries from over 40,000 local grocers and chain stores, and youll have your order delivered to your doorstep.
Does Instacart accept food stamps? Yes, Instacart takes EBT cards from some retail stores. As of late 2020, SNAP recipients can use their EBT & SNAP benefits on Instacart to pay for groceries from stores like Aldis, Walmart, and Whole Foods. If the store carries it, Instacart will deliver girl scout cookies with SNAP funds.
To use your EBT card on Instacart, youll first need to add it to your Instacart account. SNAP benefits can only be used to pay for EBT eligible items on Instacart. Youll need an alternative payment option like a to cover additional costs like service fee, delivery charges, and any EBT-ineligible items purchased.

Ebt Fast Food Delivery Summary
