Stop & Shop on Thursday became the latest Ahold Delhaize USA supermarket chain to allow customers using SNAP benefits the option to pay with an EBT card when placing online orders for pickup and delivery.
Earlier this year, Ahold chains The Giant Company, Giant Food, Hannaford and Food Lion also began accepting EBT payments online for SNAP recipients.

For Stop & Shop, the new service applies for all families and individuals paying with SNAP funds across the grocers five-state footprint including more than 400 stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey, as well as for customers receiving delivery in New Hampshire.
The new user-friendly experience offers online grocery shoppers the option to add their EBT card to their account on StopandShop.com and to shop using their SNAP funds. While browsing online aisles, SNAP customers can sort products to show eligible items, and a “SNAP Eligible” label will appear within the product details. At checkout, customers can select the “Apply SNAP benefits” option and select the amount to charge to their EBT card, allowing personalized budgeting throughout the month.

Additionally, customers that prefer to use the Instacart marketplace may now also use their SNAP benefits to purchase grocery items from Stop & Shop at instacart.com/StopandShop.
Can I Make Changes To My Online Order
Yes, within a certain time frame after placing your order. Sign in and click “Orders” in the drop-down next to your name at the top of the page to edit or cancel your order. Items in your order and updating your delivery or pickup date and time may only be edited on the same day your order is placed.

Do I Need To Be Present At The Time Of Delivery Who Can Pick Up My Order
If your order contains alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and/or other age-restricted items, someone over the age of 21 must be present to accept and/or sign for delivery or pickup. For pickup orders we reserve the right to request that valid photo identification and/or the payment method used to place the order be presented to the Store Associate upon arrival for verification purposes.
We are now practicing contact-free social distancing for delivery and pickup. If there are no age-restricted items in your order, the delivery driver will leave your order at your doorstep. In the payments section of the checkout page, enter your SNAP EBT card information and click Apply Payment. Choose the SNAP and/or EBT Cash amount youd like to use. If the total amount for SNAP-eligible items is higher than your SNAP balance amount, or to pay for any non-SNAP eligible items, you can use another form of payment to cover the difference.

Peapod At Stop And Shop
Peapod is used to be responsible for Stop and Shop deliveries. However, Stop and Shop no longer uses Peapod for grocery deliveries. Instead, pickup and delivery orders are placed directly through the Stop and Shop app or the website. Users will need to merge their Peapod and Stop and Shop accounts.
If you previously used Peapod and have an account, you can still use this with Stop and Shop to earn rewards.
Simply sign into the Stop and Shop website using your sign-in info from your Peapod account. Then, you will add your Stop and Shop rewards card to combine the two accounts.

Stop and Shop has indicated that tipping delivery drivers is accepted but not expected. However, delivery drivers greatly appreciate any tips. We recommend that you give your Stop and Shop delivery driver a 15-20% tip. You can add the tip when you place the order online or tip at the delivery location.
It is the easiest to add the tip to your delivery order right when you place it online. However, if you wish to wait until you receive your groceries, you can tip your driver in person when they deliver your order.

Expanded Ebt Online Program
In 2017 the USDA began a pilot program to start online shopping for food using the electronic benefit transfer card or EBT. As a result, the program greatly increased last year, allowing many more SNAP users access to shopping for food online.
In fact, the online program is now accepted in 47 states and the District of Columbia. Alaska, Louisiana, and Montana are the only states across the US that have not opted to enroll in the program.
