$230 Million In Supplemental Snap Benefits Available For New York Residents
ALBANY, N.Y. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday more than $200 million in food assistance funds for New Yorkers in January.
New York residents enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for the month of January 2022. This will also include those residents who already receive the maximum benefit, who will receive a supplemental allotment later this month of at least $95.
“As we continue to endure the difficulties of the pandemic, too many New Yorkers are struggling to make ends meet,” Hochul said. “These additional food benefits will play a critical role in eliminating food insecurity throughout the state. As the cold weather puts pressure on family budgets, these additional SNAP funds will provide much-needed relief.”
SNAP households in all counties outside NYC should see the supplemental benefits posted sometime between January 12 and January 21.
More than 2.77 million New York residents use SNAP benefits to make ends meet. Many continue to rely on the funds due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
OTDA Acting Commissioner Daniel W. Tietz said, “The tremendous impact these food benefits have had for New York households cannot be overstated. The additional benefits SNAP households have received since the onset of the pandemic have helped millions of New Yorkers to avoid food insecurity and make ends meet during the ongoing public health emergency.”

Preparing For The New York Food Stamps Interview
The New York food stamps interview is a useful tool for both the petitioners and the OTDA. On one hand, claimants can use these conversations with office representatives to finish any portions of their applications that they could not complete on their own. Conversely, the OTDA can use the NY SNAP interview to ask claimants additional questions in order to establish if they legitimately qualify for program benefits. In some cases when petitioners file in person, their SNAP interviews may take place the same day. However, other circumstances require petitioners to visit the office at later dates.
Regardless, petitioners wondering, What do you need for the food stamps interview? need to remember that their primary obligation is to validate any claims they make in their applications. This means that claimants who say they make a certain amount of money need to be able to prove that their reports are accurate. The questions asked during the food stamps interview will relate to information such as this. As a result, claimants who ask, What do you bring to a food stamp interview? should know that they need to prepare any written proof of the facts they provided on their initial petitions.
In many cases, state representatives will contact petitioners when it is time for them to schedule and complete their NY food stamps interview. However, there are some counties throughout the state where applicants can reach out to the DSS directly in order to schedule their assessments.

New York Moves To Allow Food Stamp Recipients To Use Benefits At Restaurants
Lawmakers in New York are seeking to allow Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients to use the benefits in restaurants.
I think it’s important, particularly now when our small businesses have been suffering and our restaurants have been suffering, to provide them with another source of revenue so our folks could use their SNAP benefits to buy some hot, prepared healthy options at our local delis and our local restaurants, said Democratic Assemblywoman Karines Reyes, who sponsored the legislation.
The bill, which passed the Assembly, would allow SNAP recipients to use benefits on hot or prepared foods from approved restaurants, delis, and grocery stores at reduced prices. The state Senate passed similar legislation earlier this year, but changes in the new legislation will require lawmakers to pass the revised version.
Current law does not allow SNAP benefits to be used on prepared food or foods eaten in a store.
THOMAS MASSIE SHOCKED BY FOOD STAMPS IN THE MAIL FOR HIS HIGH SCHOOL CHILD
The bill is opposed by Republican Assemblyman Andrew Goodell, who said the legislation wouldn’t require the benefits be used on healthy food options.
Goodell also expressed concerns that not all businesses would enjoy the income of the expanded benefits.
Democratic Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes pushed back on Republican opposition, noting restaurants are required to list the caloric content of their meals.
Lawmakers passed the legislation passed with a 112-35 vote.
