The SNAP program helps low-income working people, seniors and the disabled to put healthy food on the table. SNAP benefits are issued electronically on a monthly basis. SNAP eligibility is based on household income, household size and other factors.

Fulton County residents can apply on-line by logging onto: www.mybenefits.ny.gov. Applicants may also mail in their applications which may be obtained by calling 518-736-5600. Applicants can also apply in person at our department located at 4 Daisy Lane, Johnstown during regular business hours.

If your household has little or no money and requires help right away, you may be able to receive expedited benefits to meet your food needs under SNAP. You must be interviewed for expedited SNAP benefits in order to determine eligibility and the need for the expedited benefits.

If you qualify, you will receive your initial benefit within five days of application. You will still have to complete the eligibility process and supply all necessary and requested documentation within 30 days.

New Ebt Card Security Option

If you think you may have lost your FNS card, you can now place a “freeze” on the card by logging into your Cardholder Portal or EBT Mobile application. This gives you a chance to look for your card before ordering a new one. While “frozen” no new purchases, withdrawals, PIN changes, or benefit inquiries can be made . You will still continue to receive your benefits. If you find your card you can unfreeze it throught he same app.

They may tell you about a Social Security or tax return problem to gain you trust and steal your money. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and report the scam oig.ssa.gov.

Social Security and other government agencies may contact you, but will never: threaten to arrest you unless you pay a fine “suspend” your Social Security number require an immediate payment by cash, gift card, or wire transfer, or demand secrecy from you.

New Program To Help Families Pay Water Bills

Beginning Wednesday, December 1st eligible households that have had their water services cut off or have received notice that their water services are in danger of being cut off can apply for assistance in paying their billt hrough a new federal program called the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program . Households that currently receive FNS or Work First, or families who received LIEAP between October 2020 and September 2021 are automatically eligible to receive this benefit if water services are danger of being cut off.

You can apply by going to www.epass.nc.gov. Either apply online or print an application off and drop it off at our offices. You can also apply in person. Applications will be taken as long as funding is available. Beginning on January 1, 2022, all household will be able to apply for and receive assistance if they meet eligiblity requirements and funding is available.

You Can Apply For Many Of Our Services Online

PLEASE NOTE: DHS has implemented COVID-19 precautions for all visitors entering office lobbies across the state. These rules will impact customers coming into state offices for scheduled in-person appointments.

Guidelines include:

  • Arriving alone to drop-off or pick-up documents or take part in scheduled in-person appointments.
  • Answering COVID-19 health screening questions.
  • Maintaining a distance of 6 feet from others.
  • Not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

Some interview requirements have been temporarily waived for individuals receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families benefits. Customers filing initial applications and recertifications are not required to visit an office provided their identity has been verified and all other mandatory verifications have been completed.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program, known as the Senior Food Box, supplies a free box of food to seniors every month. It includes fruits and juices, vegetables, milk, plant-based protein, meat/poultry/fish, cereals, cheese, and pasta or rice. You must be at least 60 years old and meet income requirements to qualify.     Use Your Ebt Card And Fns Benefits To Order Online

    Update: You may now purchase groceries through Instacart from Food Lion. Once items are added to your cart, you will be able to select your FNS benefits and how much you like to apply to the order. Through March 16th Instacart is waiving all delivery and pickup fees on your first three orders using FNS benefits.

    North Carolina FNS recipient can now use their EBT card to order food online through Amazon and Walmart. Your order can be delivered or picked up at a local store. Online purchases using EBT follow the same guidelines as in-store purchases. You will not be able to use FNS benefits to pay for delivery or service charges. If an order is not eligible for free pick up or delivery, you will need to provide another payment . This new way to use your FNS benefits is not limited to the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue after the crisis has ended.

    The Montgomery County Food Access Center has a launched a dedicated webpage for food assistance requests

    Residents looking for information on food assistance resources can now request help by completing a simple online form.

    Available in seven languages , the form is reviewed by a trained resource specialist, and residents receive a return phone call within one business day.

    The specialist will determine a residents individual food needs and help them locate food assistance in their community. No Personally identifiable information is needed to get help.

    Information is available about free food distribution sites, free meal and grocery delivery, SNAP , local food assistance providers, and other resources in Montgomery County. Residents can also call 311 and ask for the Food Access Call Center to get help with their food needs.

    The Food Access Call Center opened in June 2020 and has been working throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to address the increasing need for food assistance across the County. As of mid-December, the Food Access Call Center has responded to more than 2,000 calls/referrals.
