Dont Include Other Peoples Income If You Dont Have To
Sometimes, clarifying your household can make a huge impact. You could get significantly more food stamps just by making sure the office understands your living situation.
For SNAP purposes, a household is a group of individuals who live together, purchase food together and prepare food together. Your household may include your spouse, children, or anyone else that you both live with and share food with.
That part is critical. In order to be a household, you must live together and share food. If you dont do both, youre not a household and you dont have to include their income.
If you store and prepare food separately, then you dont have to include their income and information on your application. This is especially important for people who live with roommates or who have live-in caregivers. You can contact the food stamps office to clarify this today!
If you are disabled and unable to shop for your own groceries, then you can appoint someone to shop for you. That person does not have to be included in your household as long as you make it clear to the agency that you do not share food with this person.
If you have dietary restrictions and always prepare your food separately, this is also something that should be made clear to your caseworker.

Hello,I have raised my nieces for 13 years after the State of Florida took them from their parents and placed them with me. I am now down to one child who is 19 but is in 12th grade. They are now only giving us $19 a month in food stamps. I’m a single woman making $15 an hour at a full time job. In the 13 years their dad has paid maybe $2500. total but DCF says it shows he is paying $263. a month which is not all coming to his child or the SMI. The amount can be $16 or $0 for months on end and occasionally $137. and it did not start until I had the girls for 8 or 9 years. I guess the question is can she apply on her how and get more support as a full-time high school student even though she is 19. Her parents failed her early on and we have not been able to catch her up the 3 years she was behind in school. Please help if you can.
