You may be able to save $9.25 off your monthly Internet bill by applying for the Lifeline subsidy! This subsidy pays $9.25 directly to your internet provider, thereby reducing your bill. You qualify for this subsidy if you receive any of the following!

Please note that the broadband low income program has been under attack in the current political environment and has suffered some cut backs. Centurylink Internet Basics Is No Longer Available

CenturyLink quietly ended their Internet Basics program in 2017. They chose not to announce the change and instead quietly scrubbed their website of any mention of the program. According to the customer service representative I spoke to, they have replaced Internet Basics with the pre-paid Simple Pay option.

According to the representative, Breiya E.:

SIMPLEPAY Internet is a month-to-month service which may be cancelled at any time and requires monthly pre-payment with a credit/debit card. Service will begin on the date your Service order completes. Each prepaid billing cycle is 30 days with service automatically renewing monthly until you cancel. Prepaid payments for unused service will not be refunded or credited to account.

POSTPAID Price for Life Internet can be bundled with DIRECTV and/or Price for Life Home Phone. There are no activation fees or contract. Services and equipment are NOT paid in advance. Keep your rate as long as you keep your plan at your current address.

When pressed about prices, Breiya responded, It can range, depending on the speed of internet available at your residency with the lowest being $45 a month.

This is NOT a low income option and NOT a viable alternative to the discounted Internet Basics program so be careful if you contact CenturyLink!

Where To Start With Low

There are multiple options for affordable internet services. Use the links below to check out the programs youre interested in, or keep scrolling to read the full article.

The best low-income internet option is the current Emergency Broadband Benefit program, which offers low-income households up to $50 per month off internet service. Since the average price for internet is around $50, those savings may get you connected for free.

But because we dont know how long this emergency program will be around, we also recommend looking into two longer-term internet solutions.

First, there are a variety of internet provider initiatives with discounted monthly rates, with some as low as $9.95 per month. Many are for low-income families with kids who qualify for the National School Lunch Program , but the qualifications vary by provider.

The second option is a government assistance program called Lifeline, which offers $9.25 per month off either internet or phone services to low-income households. Lifeline offers less savings than the EBB or most internet provider initiatives, but its better than nothing.

Internet Service Provider Programs

Many ISPs also offer their own assistance programs for families with low income or other needs that wouldnt otherwise be able to afford internet access. If you dont qualify for Lifeline or prefer to use the benefit for phone service, this can be a great option.

First, find out which providers service your area:

Altice runs both Optimum and Suddenlink, and customers with access to either ISP can sign up for Altice Advantage Internet, which offers internet speeds up to 30 Mbps for $14.99 per month for those who qualify.

The Altice Advantage Internet program is available to those who have a child recipient of the NSLP in the household, receive Supplemental Security Income , or are US military veterans who receive public assistance.

Visit the Altice Advantage Internet webpage to see if you qualify and apply.

AT& Ts Access program offers internet speeds up to 10 Mbps to eligible low-income families for $5$10 per month. To qualify for Access, customers must have at least one family member who participates in the SNAP program.

Visit the Access page to fill out an application and see if you qualify.

Internet Assist costs $14.99 per month and offers faster speeds than Xfinity Internet Essentials. But the ISP charges an extra $5.00 per month if you want WiFi.

To apply for Spectrum Internet Assist, call Spectrum at .

What if you could seriously reduce your internet bill each month?

As most people have experienced, Wi-Fi and internet access can get very expensive and eat up too much of the monthly budget. Without reliable internet access, its easy to end up cut off from the world, so maintaining service can be a difficult problem for many families.

What Is The Lifeline Network

The Lifeline Network is where many low-income internet providers come together and launch plans for low-income families. This is primarily a government initiative or a subsidy program that helps all the low-income families get internet too at a heavily discounted price. To be in the Lifeline Network, you need to be an enrolled member in the following: Medicaid, SNAP, SSI , and Federal Public Housing Assistance.

Can You Get The Internet For Free

Its a little-known fact, but many of the major internet service providers have low-cost internet programs. You might be able to pick up some free internet by bundling services, like TV and phone. You may be able to get some free wifi if your mobile phone carrier has hotspots. Again, definitely worth a phone call.

Why Internet For Low

Internet is now significantly cheaper even so many low-income families still dont afford to buy Internet and laptops. But one thing is clear that the world and people will be connected nicely even if they dont have any way to go Internet plans. Surely low-income families need the Internet as they want to seek government assistance, program, and other assistance programs from a different organization.

Low-income families need Medicaid insurance programs and they can go and visit the government official website. They can browse and buy plans at a lower cost. But the Internet helps them get that. The patients need to get information from an online source and they want to seek better treatment plans. They can do that by visiting the hospital website and getting information on that. A job seeker may need to apply for a job and want to pursue job training. Internet facilitates that well.

So the need for the Internet cant be explained in a word but the access and use of Internet have been the main issue indeed. For this, the United States of America always believes in equal access to the Internet for everyone even if low-income families dont afford to buy high-speed internet. So there are different programs and assistance for low-income families. Those who dont afford to buy Internet need to know these programs and get Internet as the aim of connecting everyone online and virtually.
