If you have limited income, restricted countable resources and are already receiving SSDI or SSI, you may also qualify for SNAP benefits. How Do I Apply For Snap
There are several options for applying. Only one member of the households needs to apply for the total household, but everyone living in the household needs to be included on the application along with their income. Most states provide an online application to start the process. See the States website section for a link to your states website. If your state does not provide an online application or you do not have access to a computer, you can go to your local state or county office to apply.
As part of the application process, you will need to go to your local state or county office for a face-to-face interview. If you are not able to go to the local office or apply online, you can designate an authorized representative. This is someone you give authority to represent you. You have to designate the person in writing to be official. This person can be a friend or relative.
The entire process generally involves filling out an application, going in for a face-to-face interview, and providing verifications for needed information such as income, residency, and expenses. If because of age or disability, an applicant is unable to go to the office and cannot appoint a representative, the interview may be waived at the discretion of the local office. However, if the interview is waived, the applicant will have to have a phone interview or consent to a home visit instead.

Who Qualifies For Food Stamps In California
Eligibility for SNAP and CalFresh is based largely on income, and the amount of financial assistance you may be eligible for is based on income, as well. Seniors and individuals living with disabilities are offered more leniencycompared to the traditional requirementsin terms of the amount of financial resources they can hold and still be eligible for CalFresh benefits. And although meal assistance generally renders an individual ineligible for SNAP benefits, seniors can still be eligible even if they get their meals from a federally subsidized facility or from other low-income living facilities.

No One Can Truly Live On Food Stamps
Unlike other government programs, its impossible to live on food stamps alone. You arent actually given money, which makes it difficult to cheat the system and buy anything other than food. Plus, its only enough to barely buy enough groceries. In that sense I feel like its hard to say that people really are abusing the program and that its not serving its purpose.
I hope I never have to go back to living on food stamps. To me, getting government assistance like this means that Im in a pretty bad place financially, and Id never choose that over working hard and earning enough money to pay for my own food.
