Funds are loaded into the card each month and the cardholder can use these funds to buy food from designated stores, spread throughout the state. The cardholders can buy pretty much anything that comes within the list of permitted food. Some of the foods not allowed are hot-foods, ready to eat food, liquor, and cigarettes.
In order to receive SNAP benefits in Kentucky, families and individuals have to meet certain eligibility requirements. Household income has to be within income guidelines for the program. For the purpose of program, a household is a unit of people living together, buying food together and preparing meals together. Children under the age of 21 are considered part of the same household but children above the age of 21 living in the same household can apply for individual benefits.

A Note About Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program
KTAP has a 20-hour work requirement to qualify for the benefit 30 hours if you have a child/children 6 or older. There is a five-year lifetime limit. Amount of assistance is approximately $225/month for parents with one child, $260/month for parents with 2 or more children. EXEMPTION: Students can count class time as work hours for up to 12 months. This will allow you to just work the 10 hours a week like other students for at least 12 months. Students receiving the KTAP exemption must provide verification of class hours monthly on their PA-33 form and return this by the 10th of each month for transportation assistance.
