National School Lunch Program Eligibility

Receiving free meals at school does not mean a student is eligible for NSLP, and it does not automatically make a student eligible for P-EBT. Some Texas campuses have offered free meals to all students during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Children can be eligible for NSLP in different ways. They are eligible if they have one of the following:

  • NSLP household meal application approved by the child nutrition department.
  • Families are encouraged to submit a meal application by April 29, 2022 to receive P-EBT benefits in a timely manner. However, meal applications may still be approved up until June 30, 2022.
  • Direct certification through state or local programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, federally funded Head Start or Early Head Start, foster care, migrant or homeless youth.
  • Enrollment in Community Eligibility Provision schools or Provision 2 schools.
  • Children attending these schools are NSLP-eligible and do not need to complete a NSLP household application. If you are uncertain about whether your childs school is a CEP or P2 school, contact the child nutrition department .
  • Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Information

Your family may be eligible for one-time state-funded benefits you can use to buy food! The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer is for children enrolled in school who may have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price meals during the 2020-21 school year.

Who qualifies: Those meeting one of the following criteria are encouraged to apply for P-EBT:

    • Families with children who may be eligible to receive free or reduced-price school meals.
    • Families with children who attend a school that participates in the Community Eligibility Provision program .
    • Families who received state-funded benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for the first time during the 2020-21 school year in May or June 2021.

Families who received state-funded SNAP benefits prior to May 2021 do not need to complete an application. These families will have P-EBT benefits automatically placed on their Lone Star Card by May 28. A notice will be mailed to families receiving SNAP benefits that shows which children will receive P-EBT benefits.

How to apply: Complete the online application at www.yourtexasbenefits.com/Learn/PEBT. The P-EBT application is open June 2 through August 13. Parents Please follow this important step: When completing the application select Dallas County for the county selection, from there select Texans Can School district and all of the other campuses will show up! For San Antonio Highlands use Bexar County.

I Cant Even Get Past The Log In Cause A Glitch Im Frustrated

    Dawson Independent School District

I have things to do, like set up my healthcare plan properly so I can go get an ultrasound for my child, which is what you guys were supposed to be offering here. What did I get? A glitch, I cant even freaking log in to my account because after I answer my DOB and SSC I am proceeded to the next part of logging in and it says answer these three questions, you only have one try and yet…THERES NO QUESTIONS just a grey screen with that writing typed on the top, I closed out and re entered my information again. STILL NOTHING NEW, just the grey screen holding me back from getting my healthcare done. And worse I just got off the phone from the interview she should be calling me soon to see if Ive uploaded my documents and when I have to tell her there is a glitch and I cant log in, Im sure we wont be able to continue much of the process without it, then I will have to dip into my wallet, and spend money that a young mother looking for help with her healthcare shouldnt be spending right now, just to get a ride all the way 30 minutes out to use the father of my childs computer. I need this to be fixed because this affects everything in my agenda and this is supposed to help me not dig me further into my problems.

    An Old Fashioned Person Opinion

Governor extends pandemic food assistance deadline

I think it sounds better old fashioned than old! ) and for whatever reason, afraid of technology, after many intents for different kind of things. Where I used to fill a paper job-application and submitted in person! I was already getting blocked when heard I need to submit a document… but this app made it so easy!! I thank you. Its not easy to apply for benefits when I should be contributing and helping others. What is behind to be doing this, is hard to handle, and every other little thing, it looks as a huge one! Maybe Im the only person who feels like this, maybe not. But I thank the government, this institution and each person involved, like the kind and patience lady that just helped me on the phone, for making this process less difficult. And whoever created this program/app. Which I think its quite kid-friendly, and is what I need to be able to go through. Sincerely, thank you. Cristal Martinez Frank.

Texas To Provide $626m In Pandemic Food Benefits

    • From Staff Reports

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a fourth round of federal Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer food benefits for Texas families with children who temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals due to COVID-19.

“Were thankful for the opportunity to continue this successful P-EBT program in Texas,” said Wayne Salter, HHS deputy executive commissioner of Access and Eligibility Services. “These food benefits provide much-needed assistance to families and children impacted by school closures.”

HHSC received federal approval to provide more than $626 million in benefits to approximately 2.1 million eligible children in Texas for the 2021-22 school year. To date, HHSC has distributed approximately $6.13 billion in P-EBT food benefits to Texas families. P-EBT is a joint effort of HHSC, the Texas Department of Agriculture, and the Texas Education Agency.

To be eligible for the 2021-22 school year P-EBT, a student must be certified for free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program at their Texas school and have experienced COVID-related absences, virtual attendance, or campus closures. The 2021-22 school year P-EBT is based on the number of days an individual student did not receive in-person instruction due to COVID-19 illness. Families will receive $7.10 for each eligible day.

How Much Money Will My Child Receive For School Year 20212022 P

P-EBT benefits for school year 20212022 vary for each child because benefits are based on the number of days a child did not receive free or reduced-price meals due to COVID-related absences, virtual attendance, or days that schools were closed due to COVID-19. The daily benefit amount of $7.10 will be issued for each day a child is eligible for P-EBT. For example, if a child was absent for seven days because they stayed home after testing positive for COVID-19 and a school closed due to COVID-19 for three days, they would receive a P-EBT benefit of $71.00 .

    Who Is It For

    P-EBT Cards
    • People who dont have a lot of money and meet program rules.
    • Most adults ages 18 to 49 with no children in their home can get SNAP for only three months in a three-year period. The benefit period might be longer if the person works at least 20 hours a week or is in a job or training program. Some adults might not have to work to get benefits, such as those who have a disability or are pregnant.
    • Households in which all members are either older adults or people with disabilities are eligible to participate in the Texas Simplified Application Project , which makes the SNAP application process easier and provides three years of benefits at a time instead of six months.

    Food Stamp Income Requirements

The SNAP program has eligibility standards for both gross and net monthly income. Most people will need to fit within both the gross and net income guidelines in order to be eligible. Exceptions to this include the elderly. For households including at least one person over the age of 60, only the net income standard is applied. Another exception is those receiving TANF and SSI.

The table below shows the maximum gross and net monthly income based on family size for SNAP eligibility. The gross income is the income you make prior to any deductions. Net income is after deductions. The only exceptions to the chart below are Alaska and Hawaii, which have higher income limits due to the significant increase in cost of living.
