– An outage affecting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program was reported across the country Sunday, according to Down Detector.
The program, known as SNAP, provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of low-income families so they can purchase healthy food. Electronic Benefits Transfer, known as EBT, is an electronic system similar to a debit card that allows a SNAP participant to pay for food using SNAP benefits.
On Sunday afternoon, the South Carolina Department of Social Services tweeted: DSS is aware of EBT processing issues with approved retailers, impacting the ability for clients to use their EBT cards, due to a third party processor outage impacting programs in multiple states.
The department tweeted Sunday evening: The third party processor for EBT cards has confirmed to DSS that all systems have been restored and cards issued to clients should be operational statewide at approved EBT retailers.
The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance tweeted Sunday afternoon: DTA has been informed by the states EBT vendor that the EBT system is currently down in Massachusetts & some other states. You will not be able to use your EBT card or check your real time balance at this time. However, retailers may be able to manually authorize your purchase.
As of 12 a.m. ET, Down Detector was showing around 350 reports of an outage, down from a peak of 5,019 around 2:50 p.m.

Texas Prosecutor Resigns Amid 2019 Walmart Attack Criticism

EL PASO, Texas A Texas prosecutor facing mounting criticism over the handling of the 2019 Walmart mass shooting in El Paso that killed 23 people resigned Monday after the county took the extraordinary step of seeking to remove her from elected office.
El Paso County District Attorney Yvonne Rosales, a Democrat who was elected in 2020, agreed to resign during a court hearing Monday, El Paso television station KTSM reported. Her last day will be Dec. 14.
Rosales job was put in jeopardy over accusations of incompetence involving hundreds of criminal cases in El Paso and slowing down the case against Patrick Crusius, the suspected Walmart shooter who faces the death penalty if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty.
El Paso County Attorney Jo Anne Bernal wrote last week in an amended petition that when it came to the Walmart shooting, Rosales office could not even tell the court what work had been done on this case in the last few months.
Rosales office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday. Her successor for the remainder of her term, which expires in 2024, will be chosen by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
Under the best of circumstances, holding public office is difficult. I appreciate that DA Rosales decision to resign was a difficult one, Bernal said in a statement, according to the El Paso Times.
