Who Can Receive Snap

SNAP is available to households that meet certain qualifications referred to as eligibility criteria. SNAP eligibility takes residency, age and relationship, citizenship, social security number assignment, employment, resource, income, and related deductions factors into consideration. These factors not only determine a households eligibility to receive SNAP but also determine if additional documents will be required for a household to maintain SNAP after SNAP approval. Failure to submit required documents such as change forms or Simplified Reporting Forms can result in the cancellation of SNAP benefits.

Important Information About Recertifications

Recertifications: If you receive a Cash Assistance or SNAP recertification notice by mail or an ACCESS HRA alert that you need to recertify, you must submit your recertification or your benefits will stop. You can use ACCESS HRA, fax, mail, or a drop box at open centers to submit your recertification. Please make sure that we have your correct phone number. CA six-month mailer/SNAP periodic report: Starting in April 2022, all Cash Assistance and SNAP households that are due to return either a CA Six-Month Mailer or a SNAP Periodic Report must do so to keep getting benefits. Households who failed to return their mailer/report in January, February or March 2022 did not have their case closed for failing to return the mailer/report.

Expanded Snap Eligibility For College Students During The Covid

During the COVID-19 emergency, there are new rules for the SNAP program which will allow more college students to get benefits.

If you are a student eligible to participate in a state or federal work-study program, you may now also be eligible for SNAP, even if you arent currently employed in work-study.

If your “expected family contribution” is $0, and you meet other SNAP eligibility requirements, you are eligible for SNAP.

*Your EFC is found in your Student Aid Report and it is calculated based on information provided in your Free Application for Federal Student Aid .

These new SNAP eligibility rules will last until one month after the public health emergency from COVID-19 is officially lifted. If you are able to get benefits thanks to these new rules, your benefits will last until your next recertification even if the public health emergency is ended first.

Uploading Your Snap Documents

1 When you download them, you should be given an option to rename each photos file with a title that explains what each photo contains. Or, you can write down each files name, along with a note letting you know what each photo is.

Depending on how your states web portal works, you may be able to directly upload photos from your phones camera roll onto the SNAP application site, and wont need a computer. Why Cant I Upload Documents From My Email

So I noticed one huge FLAW I cant upload photos from my gallery I have to send in my terming letter to fix my case but it was emailed to me because I lost it and now I cant upload the Email to my account it makes no sense to not be able to upload something from my phone to the app! I have to go out my way and print up a paper that Im not gonna need next month. It makes no sense at all please fix this!!!!!

Getting Started With The Nydocsubmit Mobile App

You can download the NYDocSubmit mobile app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

After launching the app, you can select your preferred language from the following list: English, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Spanish, Bengali, Chinese , Korean, Russian, Yiddish, Italian and Polish.

You will be prompted to read and agree to the Terms of Use and the Disclaimer.

You will need to use your NY.gov account to log in to NYDocSubmit. If you dont have a NY.gov account, you can create one.

To submit your document, select your social services district from the list, select the program that you are submitting a document for, or select not sure if you dont know, and then select a document category.

Take a picture of the document. You will have the opportunity to take additional pictures if the document has multiple pages, but please only submit one document at a time.

Provide the first and last name, and phone number, for whom the documents are being submitted. You will also need to enter at least one of the following submission details: Social Security Number , Client Identification Number , Case Number, or Date of Birth.

After you confirm the submission details, and submit, a confirmation screen will appear following a successful upload. Wait until you receive the confirmation screen before submitting another document or closing the app.

Examples Of Documents That Should Not Be Submitted Through Nydocsubmit

NYDocSubmit should not be used to submit initial applications, recertification applications, periodic reports or documents that include sensitive information, such as:

Child Protective Services case information or to report suspected child abuse or maltreatment,
Documents that contain HIV information,
Domestic violence information,

Addresses that must remain confidential to safeguard any member of an applicants or recipients household.

How Does Snap Work

Following federal guidelines, SNAP functions by providing qualifying households with a grocery stipend for a set length of time called a certification period. During the certification period, benefits are distributed using an Electronic Benefit Card Card. Similar to credit cards, EBT cards can be used at participating stores and online retailers to purchase groceries. The amount of SNAP granted and the SNAP certification period are based on a households resources and situation.
