More Than 500000 Children Received Benefits For 2020

Summer P-EBT benefits will begin rolling out for students in K-12 schools

BATON ROUGE, LA, July 27, 2021 – The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services received federal approval to expand the state’s Pandemic EBT program to cover the summer months.

To date, DCFS, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education, has issued approximately $192.2 million in P-EBT benefits for 515,624 students who receive federal free or reduced-price meals but attended school between August 2020 and May 2021 on a hybrid or virtual learning schedule because of the pandemic. The third P-EBT payment, covering February-May 2021, is scheduled to begin loading onto cards on August 4.

Benefits for the Summer P-EBT program are expected to be issued in August and September.

For Summer P-EBT, each eligible child will receive a one-time payment of $375 to cover both June and July. The program differs from the 2020-21 School Year P-EBT program in that students who attended school in-person, as well as on a hybrid or virtual schedule, would be eligible if they receive free or reduced-price meals and were in school in May 2021.

It includes those eligible for free or reduced-price school meals through the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program and those in a Community Eligibility Provision school, where all children receive free meals regardless of family income, as of May 2021.

North Carolina Approved To Extend Student P

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services today announced it has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to continue the Student Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer food assistance program for eligible K-12 students through the 2021-22 school year under new rules. North Carolina is still awaiting federal approval for Child Care P-EBT and cannot issue benefits to this group until USDA approval is received.

North Carolina was one of the first states to launch Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer early in the pandemic. The federally funded program has provided more than $1.7 billion of groceries to more than 1.3 million children at risk of hunger due to school closures.

Eligibility for the program has changed. Under new federal rules for P-EBT, students will only get P-EBT for eligible days. With most students now in school and receiving meals in person, many households will not get P-EBT this year or will receive only a small amount when the student experiences a COVID-19 related absence. Like last year, there is no application for P-EBT. Students are eligible for the program if they are approved for free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program AND their attendance record reflects they are not physically present in school because of a COVID-19 related absence. More information on eligibility and benefits can be found by visiting the P-EBT website.

I Have Been Picking Up Meals From My Childs School Can I Still Get P

Yes! You can pick up meals from your childs school and also get P-EBT.

I dont want to use my P-EBT funds. What do I do?

The economy is very uncertain, so you can hold onto the card in case you need it months from now. Funds will carry over from month to month, but if you do not use your card at all, funds will expire after 9 months.

Federal rules dont allow recipients to transfer this benefit to others, so you cannot use this benefit to buy food for others. But you can buy food for your kids using this card and if this frees up money for you to help others, then you can donate the money you saved on groceries to charity or to help others in need if you wish.

I Cant Find My Child On The Parent Portal What Does That Mean

First, the states P-EBT portal will also only show information for children who were found eligible for one of the P-EBT payments that have already started to go out. It will not show dollar amounts for future payments that havent started. So, if your child didnt have any COVID-related absences from September 2021 through May 2022, your child will not show up yet in the system because the Summer P-EBT payment hasnt been issued yet.

The P-EBT parent portal uses exact data matching to look up your childs information. The following things have to match how they would appear in your childs school system:

    • Childs first name and last name
    • Childs birthdate
    • Primary guardians name
    • Make sure you also select the year in the top right School Year field.

If youve tried all of those combinations and still cant find your childs information, you will need to reach out to DHS to have them look into what happened with your childs benefit.

Call the newP-EBT Hotline at during business hours . Have the following information available when you call:

    • Names of your child
    • A brief description of the issue
    • The specific days when your child was out of school due to COVID-19

Or you can submit an inquiry through DHS P-EBT Inquiry Form, filling out as much information as possible on the form.

    Questions And Answers Regarding P

Video 9: How to Apply to P-EBT (English)
Where can I use the EBT card at?

Use it the same as SNAP benefits. This benefit is used to purchase SNAP-eligible foods. These are sold at hundreds of grocers across the country. They are at convenience stores. They are at farmers markets. They are at other businesses that take SNAP. You can also use your card where you see the Quest logo. You can search for retailers that take SNAP. Find them near you. Go to link to find locations.

Can I still pick-up meals from my kids school while I have P-EBT?

    Yes.

    How are P-EBT cards issued?

If you have a P-EBT card, the funds will go on the card. That means the card you got before. A new P-EBT card is issued for every distinct combination of address and guardian name. Kids in different families with the same guardian name will get benefits on a single card. This is because the address is the same.

Will I get a new P-EBT card if I got one in the last school year?

No, if you got a P-EBT card before, the benefits will go onto that card.

What if I have more than one child? Will I get more than one P-EBT card?

Most households will get one card. It will be issued in the eldest childs name. It will include P-EBT benefits for all eligible children within the household. But this depends on the address. It also depends on guardian information on file with your childs school. You might get more than one card. If you have questions about this, call 1-833-415-0569.

Why did I not get a card for my child? I know they are eligible.
