What is SNAP?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is a U.S. Department of Agriculture initiative administered by Tennessee Department of Human Services that provides nutritional assistance to qualifying households.   • Your provider will be notified of your request for a Break In Service.
  • Breaks In Service can be authorized for a maximum of 90 days.
  • During a BREAK IN SERVICE, the Coalition will not pay your child care provider. If you use care during this time, you are responsible for full payment to your child care provider.
  • If your break in service exceeds 10 days, you must contact the Coalition at the end of your break in service and request an updated Child Care Certificate BEFORE your child can return to the child care provider. If an updated certificate is requested, you must log in to the Family Portal and provide an electronic signature when contacted by Coalition Family Services staff.

  • People who live together and buy food and prepare meals together are grouped as a household for SNAP. Husbands and wives, and children under age 22 living with their natural, adoptive or stepparents must be considered as one household.
