The Electronic Benefits Transfer card is how DTA delivers its core services: food and economic assistance. Once you qualify for food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program , and/or economic assistance through Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children or Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled, and Children , you can access them using an EBT card. It looks and works like a debit card. We keep your benefits in a special account for you until you want to use them. Your EBT card talks to the account to let you get and spend your benefit dollars in an easy, secure way. This guide tells you how.
Getting Your Approval Letter
When your application is finished processing, you’ll receive a notice in the mail either approving or denying your request for benefits. If you’re approved for benefits, the letter will include a monthly benefit amount.
Benefits are deposited onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer card monthly. Depending on your state, you may receive an EBT card before your application is approved. Although you may get your card in the mail right away, you won’t have any benefits on the card until your application is processed.
Talking To Local Case Workers
If you prefer, you may also stop in your local public assistance or social services office to discuss your case in person. Check Your Balance By Phone
If you dont have access to a computer, you can check your balance by phone. This will take a little longer than checking it online, but is effective at knowing your balance when other methods arent available to you. If you turn your food stamp EBT card over, you will see a phone number there. Call the number and go through the command prompts to enter your card number and PIN. Within a couple minutes, you will able to hear your current balance.
Returning Or Submitting Documents
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides food assistance for nearly 1.8 million low-income New Yorkers including families, people who are aging and people with disabilities. The program helps families and individuals supplement the cost of their diet with nutritious foods.
All Cash Assistance and SNAP applicants that have been approved for benefits will receive an EBT card in the mail. Is Each States Snap Food Stamps Application Different

There are strict eligibility requirements to qualify for SNAP benefits. If you want to sign up for food stamps, you must apply through the agency in your state that runs the program. As of October 2021, over 41 million people were receiving SNAP benefits according to data from the US Department of Agriculture .

SNAP applications can take 30 days to process. Expedited or emergency SNAP benefits may be available if your household is in immediate need.
