How Do I Go About Getting Snap
If you want to find out if you may be eligible to receive SNAP, visit myBenefits.ny.gov and click on Am I Eligible? to use the SNAP pre-screening eligibility tool. Please note: This pre-screening tool is not an application for SNAP.
In order to apply for SNAP, you need to file an electronic or paper application with your local county Department of Social Services, or, if you live in one of the five boroughs of New York City, with your local SNAP Center.
If you decide to submit a paper application, the SNAP office must give you an application form on the same day you ask for one. The office also must accept and register your application on the same day you turn it in.
You may submit, and the SNAP office must accept, your application as long as you have filled in your name, address and telephone number and signed the application. However, you should try to provide as much information as you can. Whatever information you cannot provide, a SNAP worker can help you complete at your eligibility interview.
You may have a complete eligibility interview done on the same day you file your application, or you may be asked to come back another day for a complete interview. If you qualify for SNAP, you must get them no later than 30 days from the date the office got your application.
What If My Lone Star Card Is Lost Stolen Or Doesn’t Work
Your card will be “canceled”. This means that no one not even you can use your card.
If you need a new card, we will mail you one. You’ll get it in seven calendar days. Your PIN and balance will transfer to your new card.
If someone steals your benefits before you call us at 800-777-7328, you lose those benefits. Someone can steal your benefits if they have your card and know your PIN.
Food Stamps Can Now Be Used To Buy Groceries On Amazon
Amazon says it will now let people in the greater Seattle area use food stamps, or SNAP benefits, to shop for groceries online.
The company expanded a pilot program that was at first only available in New York.
Amazon says people who use SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs, dont need a Prime membership to buy groceries on with their EBT cards starting Wednesday.
They will be able to buy from Amazons main grocery selection as well as from Prime Pantry and Amazon Fresh.
The company said the rest of the people across Washington state who get SNAP benefits should be able to buy groceries on Amazon within the next month.
Amazon said it believes the program will help people who dont have easy access to grocery stores to get what they need as the pilot program expands to other areas.

Gross Income Deductions = Net Income
Your gross income is the money you make before taxes and insurance is taken out.
The deductions are things like medical expenses, housing, rent, child and other things the food stamp office counts as your deductions.

Your deductions are subtracted from the gross income and this determines your net income.
Medicaid & Utility Assistance
In some programs, you can apply for food stamps, medicaid and utility assistance at the same time. The regulations for Medicaid and Utility Assistance are different.
For Utility Assistance, you will generally need to include all people in the house no matter who they are.
For Medicaid, you never need to include people you are not related to . You may or may not need to include your children and parents, depending on everyones age, and which program you are applying for, and sometimes if anyone was declared as a dependent on taxes.
If you are applying for multiple programs, some people fill out each application separately, to avoid confusion. Or you can apply for them all at once, but double check with your caseworker to make sure that no one was wrongly added to your SNAP account.

Individuals can also print out the form and fill it out in order to submit it in the mail, fax, or take it to the Bureau for Children and Families in person. How Much Will P
The amount of P-EBT assistance depends on the schools 2020-21 schedule. The P-EBT amount is based on how the Department of Education defined the 2020-21 learning plan for the childs school. Children whose school is defined as virtual receive $6.82 per day in benefits for 18 days per month or $122.76 for each academic month theyre listed as virtual. Children whose school is identified as hybrid receive $6.82 per day for nine days per month or $61.38 per month for each month their school is listed as hybrid.
The state updated schools status as virtual, hybrid or fully in person every two months. That means some children may receive different amounts for different months of the school year. Benefits are retroactive to August 2020.

What Happens After You Apply For Snap
After you have submitted your application, you will need to complete an interview. The interview may be in person or by telephone.
If documents are missing from your application or the Department of Human Services needs more information from you to finish processing your request, your application will be delayed.
If you are approved, you will then receive your EBT card in the mail within 30 days of your determination letter unless you are eligible for expedited services, which give you benefits within only 7 days.

New Standard Medical Deduction
Households with elderly participants or participants with a disability may receive one of the following deductions from their income:
- A Standard Medical Deduction of $160 minus a $35 disregard which equals $125 or,
- An actual monthly out-of-pocket medical expense deduction, minus a $35 disregard when expenses exceed the $160 SMD amount.
Participants are required to verify expenses over $35 to receive the SMD. All expenses must be verified when a participant chooses to claim actual out-of-pocket medical expenses above $160.

I Hear About Some People Getting Snap Right Away Or Within A Few Days Of Applying How Is That Possible
Even if the SNAP office cannot do a complete eligibility interview for you on the same day you file your application, you at least must be screened to see if you qualify for what is called “expedited” consideration.
If your household has little or no money and needs help right away, you may qualify for “expedited” SNAP. If you do, you must receive your initial SNAP benefit within five days. You will still have to complete the eligibility process, and supply all the required documentation at a later date.

You may be eligible if you are a qualified noncitizen. This includes Permanent Legal Residents , refugees, asylees , and individuals granted withholding of deportation or removal.

Standard Deduction For Food Stamps
Your standard deduction depends on your household size. Below are the deductions per household size:
1 in household = $164 standard deduction
2 in household = $164 standard deduction

6 in household = $174 standard deduction
This deduction is automatically given to you, so you dont have to claim it.
Net Income X 30 = Family Contribution
At this point, you must multiply your net income by .30 or 30%. The food stamp office is having you to pay for at least 30% of your cost of food.
