    Cheapest Landline Phone Service

Lifeline discounts help to keep phone service affordable. Lifeline also gives support to both free government phone and home phone service. When you apply for assistance with your home phone, you can get up to a $9.95 discount on services.

Under Federal law, each family unit is eligible for only one phone line per household. Violation of this law may result in losing lifeline privileges. A household is defined as a group of people living in one dwelling. At the time of registration, an applicant can identify adults living in the home at the same address and live separately.

Regulations require you to re-qualify each year, and if you have lifeline assistance for your home, you cannot get cell phone service. These savings can make a big difference for those who need help the most. Funding used for Lifeline and Linkups home and cell phone service are collected through the Universal Service charge.

What Do I Need To Know About Lifeline Cell Phone Minutes And Texting

Most Lifeline wireless plans give you a maximum number of minutes per month. Check how many minutes you get, to see if a plan will work for you.

    You use minutes when you:

    • make any phone call – including toll-free numbers,
    • get calls, and
    • listen to voicemail.

If you use more than your free minutes, you have to buy extra minutes. Extra minutes are expensive. You may also have to buy minutes just to get your voicemail.

Many people who have Lifeline run out of minutes quickly, and then nobody can reach them. Be sure to give people who need to get in touch with you a back up phone number. Ask a friend or family member if you can use their number as a back up. Be careful about giving your Lifeline number to your social worker, probation officer or other people who need to reach you. If you use your Lifeline phone to call a court or an agency for a hearing, tell them you have limited minutes so they do not put you on hold or delay the matter.

Does Food Stamps Provide Free Home Phone Service For Low

So, is it possible to get a free phone under the Food Stamps Program? Yes, it is possible, however, the answer is not that simple as there are several conditions that must be met in order for this to become a reality.

Above we have mentioned Lifeline Assistance, which is another government-supported program that enables low-income households to get more affordable telecommunication services ). In general, the Lifeline support comes in a form of a $9.25 monthly discount toward a monthly bill on one of the above-listed telecommunication services.

As a SNAP participant, you are eligible for the Lifeline assistance, however, this does not come automatically. You must apply either via a telecommunication company or via the National Verifier, where you need to submit proper documentation, including your dated SNAP letter.

So, to get a free food stamp phone you need to find a home phone service provider that offers services that cost no more than $9.25 or find a provider that offers free home phone services to Lifeline program eligible customers.

Since wireless packages are currently way more popular than home phone services, there are countless providers that offer free monthly deals and free smartphones to Lifeline eligible households, however, there are no companies that offer free home phone service.

    Cheap Landline Phone Service

Thanks to some landline providers, you can have the convenience of having extensions in each room and the safety of having a dial tone when there is an emergency without breaking your pocket. Below are some of the cheap landline phone providers

    YMax MagicJack

Contrary to that with a product such as the YMax MagicJack, a Zippo-lighter-size gizmo that costs around $40 for the hardware and a full year of unlimited local and long-distance calling. After that, the service costs just $20 per year. The unit has to be inserted into a PCs USB port, and the PC has to remain on in case you want to place or take calls. That is possibly not an ideal situation for someone seeking a full-time home phone .

    NetTalk Duo

NetTalk Duo is similar to MagicJack. They both work in a similar way. However, there is a twist. You can cork it into your computer or router, the latter yielding a phone-service experience closer to what Vonage offers. It costs a little more upfront and annually , but its still a good plan.

    Ooma Telo

Ooma Telo hits your wallet with a $250 hardware charge but promises free local and long-distance service for life. Granted, the standard packages function is basic, with little more than caller ID and voicemail. However, putting an end to remunerating for phone service forever has some real enticement.

Some Providers Load Their Free Phones With Malware

In early 2020, it was revealed that many free phones that are provided from these government programs come preloaded with malware. The affected phones discussed in this article were provided by Assurance Wireless. The preinstalled malware aggressively displays ads and cant be removed without uninstalling the Settings app which can basically destroy the phone.

Thus, it is very important to carefully evaluate which plan and phone you will use. If you arent careful, you could end up with a nearly unusable device.

Who Does Lifeline Count As Part Of My Household

Safelink Cell Phones For Food Stamp Recipients

Lifeline says a household is a group of people who live together and share expenses.

A household can have only one Lifeline plan – wireless phone service, landline service, or Internet service.

People who live together but do not share expenses can be different households. If you live with another person or a group of people but you do not share expenses with them, you may be able to get your own Lifeline plan. You may have to fill out a Household Worksheet to show that you are separate households.
