Can I Get Florida Food Stamps Today

If you or your family is currently facing a life-threatening situation and in need of immediate food assistance, there is help available to you. You may be eligible for the Florida Emergency Food Stamps Program and qualify for expedited processing of your application.

To be eligible for expedited processing for regular SNAP benefits, one of the following conditions must apply:

Resources of $100 or less, and you must make less than $150 a month.

Combined resources and how much you make a month are less than how much you made last month.

Florida Department Of Children And Families Requests Swift Approval Of Innovative Approach To Disaster Snap Benefits For Families

Today, Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun Harris called on the United States Department of Agriculture to approve Florida’s application for Disaster-SNAP benefits. The Department has included in its request innovative strategies that will allow efficient and expedited delivery of benefits to those in need.

The Departments request includes:

Serving the hardest hit counties first. By operating a telephonic application the Department will be able to serve those with the greatest needs first. Floridians will be able to complete the D-SNAP application with a phone call, instead of having to show in person, expediting the process and quickly putting food assistance benefits in the hands of those in need.

Hiring on additional call center staff to help solely with the D-SNAP process. DCF has requested approval for existing SNAP participants to receive the maximum benefit for their household size. Once granted, existing SNAP participants will receive the difference between their normal monthly benefit amount and the maximum amount allowable.

If You Receive Snap Overpayments

There are three different kinds of SNAP overpayments:

Agency Error: DCF made an error and paid you too much money.

Inadvertent Household Error: The household made an error that led DCF to pay you too much.

Intentional Program Violation: DCF believes your or a member of your household lied, committed fraud, or intentionally misled them to gain extra SNAP benefits.

If DCF claims that your household received more food stamps than you should have been given but you believe that you were not overpaid, you have the right to appeal the decision within ninety days.

If you were overpaid benefits, you are still obligated to pay back DCF for the amount of overpayment even if the overpayment was DCFs error. An accidental overpayment does not benefit your household, because it must always be paid back. If you have noticed an overpayment in your SNAP benefits that you believe to be DCFs error, notify them immediately. It cannot benefit you in the long run.

If you do not appeal or if you agree with the overpayment, DCF can do several things to collect the amount that you owe:

If you are getting SNAP benefits now, DCF will lower your monthly benefits. The amount they will take depends on the type of overpayment you have.
