Austin, Texas –

The Governors office announced today that $308 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of December. This program is set to help more than 1.5 million Texas households.

HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Satler said this money will help families stay fed during the holiday season.

As Texas families gather to celebrate the holidays this month, this will provide some comfort to them with these additional funds to help them buy nutritious food, said Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture gave approval to extend the maximum, allowable amount of SNAP benefits to recipients based on family size, and all SNAP households will receive a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments. This additional emergency allotment should appear in recipients accounts by December 31.

AUSTIN, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is providing approximately $267 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of August as the state continues its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Emergency SNAP benefits have helped millions of eligible Texas families and individuals put food on the table as they navigate the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, said Governor Abbott. These supplemental benefits from HHSC will help continue to provide crucial support to Texans in need across the Lone Star State.

These emergency SNAP benefits continue to help Texans during the ongoing pandemic by providing food for individuals and their families, said Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter. We are happy to continue to support that need.

The bill states that $500 million will be provided for the WIC program to low-income pregnant women or mothers with young children who lose their jobs or are laid off due to the COVID-19 emergency.

It also includes $400 million to The Emergency Food Assistance Program to help local food banks so they can meet the heightened demand. This $400 million is to be split with $300 million going to purchasing nutritious foods and $100 million for the storage and distribution of the food.

The bill also authorizes the USDA to approve the Pandemic Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer plans that states put forward. USDA can approve state requests to provide emergency SNAP benefits to households with children who would otherwise receive free or reduced-price meals if not for their schools being closed due to the COVID-19 emergency. In order to be eligible, the childs school must be closed for no less than 5 consecutive days.

The bill also waives certain required responses in SNAP applications during the COVID-19 emergency and gives more flexibility to states in managing the SNAP program.

Qualifying For Expedited Snap In Texas

When reviewing an application for SNAP benefits, Texas HHSC factors in your household income and expenses. If you live with other people, share food expenses and prepare meals together, you are considered a “household.”

  • Print out an application from the YourTexasBenefits.com and then fax, mail or bring the completed application to your local HHSC office. If you fax or mail the application, send a copy of your government-issued ID. If you visit the HHSC to deliver the application in person, bring your ID with you.

  • Request that HHSC mail you an application.

As the pandemic continues to impact Texas families, we will continue to provide support to these families through emergency SNAP benefits, which allow the purchases of healthy, nutritious foods, said Wayne Salter, Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner.

AUSTIN, Texas The office of Gov. Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will provide more than $310 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of November. It is part of the state’s response to COVID-19.

The allotments are expected to help more than 1.5 million Texas households, a release from Abbott’s office said.

“Our continued investment in emergency SNAP benefits has ensured Texas families can put food on the table throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Abbott said in a prepared statement. “Thank you to HHSC and USDA for ensuring these resources reach Texans across the state.”

Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter said the extension of the benefits was especially timely with holidays approaching.

“We are proud to be able to help Texans get nutritious food for their families and have peace of mind as they celebrate the holiday season together,” Salter said.
