Can I Receive Snap Benefits
You must file an application to determine if you can receive SNAP benefits. However, if you meet any one of the following conditions, you are NOT eligible to receive SNAP benefits: ineligible non-citizens, ineligible students, individuals disqualified for noncompliance with work requirements, individuals disqualified due to an intentional program violation, and individuals who were convicted of a drug related felony after August 22, 1996. What Are Ebt Cards
EBT stands for Electronic Benefit Transfer. The electronic card for using CalFresh benefits is essentially works like a debit card. Officially, it is called the Golden State Advantage Card, but most people refer to it simply as the EBT card. As opposed to eligibility guidelines, what you can and cant buy with food stamps is universal regardless of your state. The most recent update to the program says that you can buy:
- foods intended for eating by your household. These include items like bread and cereals, meat, fish and poultry, fruits and vegetables, dairy products
- any seeds or plants that will produce food for your household to eat
Thats it! However, the food items described above dont necessarily need to be fresh or healthy. Technically speaking, soft drinks, cookies, candy, and ice cream are all food items and are particular favorites for kids or those with sweet teeth. You can use your SNAP benefits to purchase these items.
You can also use your benefits to purchase so-called luxury food items like seafood, steak or cakes from a bakery. The SNAP program is not intended to limit the quality of the food you consume its intended to help people overcome starvation and still enjoy food, after all.
There are a few other technicalities with this program. For instance, any energy drink that has a nutrition facts label is eligible for the program. Energy drinks or other supplements that only have a supplement facts label, on the other hand, are technically not food items and are not eligible for the benefits.

Nutrition Assistance benefits cannot be used to pay for credit or charge accounts.
Some items that can be bought with Nutrition Assistance Benefits include:

- Infant formula diabetic foods.

- In some areas, restaurants can be authorized to accept SNAP benefits from qualified homeless, elderly, or disabled people in exchange for low-cost meals.
Some items that Nutrition Assistance benefits cannot be used to buy:
- Beer, wine, liquor .
- Non-food items such as soap, paper products, cleaning supplies and cooking utensils.
- Items used for gardening such as fertilizer, peat moss and similar products.
- Items that are not to be eaten by people such as laundry starch, pet foods, or seeds packaged as bird seed.
- Vitamins and minerals, in any form.
- All health aids, such as aspirin, cough drops or syrups, cold remedies, antacids and all prescription medicines.

Luxury And Junk Foods
